Column Type: List

Searchable dropdown column for controlled choices sourced from manual items or a source column in the same workbook.

A list column opens a searchable dropdown instead of acting like free text.

Use it when one cell should hold exactly one value chosen from an allowed set, such as Task Type, Status, Priority, Discipline, or Category.

In the column settings you can define the allowed values in 2 ways:

  • write manual items, one per line
  • point the column to a source sheet and source column in the same TableStudio file

If a source column is selected, the dropdown items are collected from that source column and the manual item list is ignored.

When you click or start editing a list cell, TableStudio opens the picker with its own search box. Selecting one item writes that chosen value into the cell.

Use list when you want controlled choices only. If you also need row lookup, mapped write-back, or multi-column search from another sheet, use Lookup instead.

A list column keeps values consistent while still letting users search the allowed items quickly.
