Column Type: Lookup

Searches one or more source sheets and writes mapped values back into the current row or other target columns.

A lookup column opens a searchable selector instead of behaving like free text. Use it when you want to pick rows from other sheets and write mapped values back into the current row.

Lookup can search one source sheet or several source sheets at the same time. Each source can use different physical columns as long as they are mapped into the same logical slots for searching and writing.

In the lookup settings, define the primary source sheet, the columns shown in the popup, the main source column written into the lookup cell itself, and any target mappings for extra values such as Unit or Price.

If Interpret main lookup value as formula when valid is enabled, the selected source value can be written as a formula and then evaluated in the target row context.

When one mapping is marked as Code Key, TableStudio stores that selected key directly and writes FINDROW formulas for the dependent mapped fields. This keeps the lookup stable even if source rows move later.

If a source sheet cell contains =TOBJ(...), lookup uses the visible object code or exported value rather than the raw formula text. That behavior is especially useful in TOBJ workflows.
