Main Files, Final Files, and Annexes

Explains the FileStudio package model and points to the DocStudio and TableStudio attachment guides.

One FileStudio record can keep the final issued file and an editable/source file beside it.

Use Main File for the primary file that represents the record, usually the issued PDF, signed document, scanned document, ZIP package, image, or other file that should open as the main document.

Use Main Editable File when you also have an editable source from your computer, such as DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, DWG, DXF, IFC, TXT, EML, MSG, or another working file. This file is stored beside the main file. It does not replace the main file.

App-native WorkStudio sources still have their own linked editable-source behavior. For example, a DocStudio or TableStudio file sent to FileStudio from that app is kept as a linked editable source. If a final file is later attached, the linked source remains available beside it.

A package can therefore include:

  • one main file
  • one main editable file or linked editable source
  • zero or more annexes
  • editable sources attached to annexes
  • internal annex links to other FileStudio records
  • title and folder rows inside the annex package

In the register and package views, FileStudio can show two file-type chips for the same record, for example PDF + DOCX or PDF + DS. The main chip opens the main file. The editable chip or Open Editable action opens the editable sidecar or linked source.

Deleting or replacing the Main File does not delete the Main Editable File or a linked editable source. Delete Main Editable File removes only the uploaded editable sidecar. Remove Editable Source removes only the linked WorkStudio source.

When a selected main or editable file is transferred, FileStudio shows the percentage and transferred size. After the transfer reaches 100%, FileStudio reports that the server is saving the file. Keep the record editor open until the save confirmation appears.

For the dedicated annex workflow, open Annexes in FileStudio.

If you want the app-specific workflows, use these guides:

In short: FileStudio is the register, the main file is the issued or primary file, and the editable file/source stays available beside it for controlled updates.
