Annexes in FileStudio

Explains the Annexes popup, title and folder levels, internal annexes, editable sources, and ZIP downloads.

The Annexes popup is the package editor for one FileStudio record.

It starts with Main Document at the top. That row is the anchor of the package.

If the record has both a main file and a main editable file or linked editable source, the main row can show both file-type chips, such as PDF + DOCX or PDF + DS. Open opens the main file. Open Editable opens the editable sidecar or linked WorkStudio source.

Everything else in the Annexes list is a child of the main document.

From there you can add three kinds of child content:

  • uploaded annex files
  • internal annexes that point to an existing FileStudio record or catalog item without uploading the file again
  • title and folder rows that organize annexes into visible groups

The sticky Annexes top bar keeps the most common actions together:

  • Download opens package download options
  • Open Annex Editor shows or hides the editor
  • Close returns to the record

Open Annex Editor lets you choose the annex source:

  • Upload file stores a new file under the record
  • Internal document links to a file that already exists in FileStudio

Internal annexes are references, not copies. If you delete an internal annex, only the reference is removed. The source file stays on its original record.

Title rows are not file annexes. They act like visible package sections.

FileStudio supports three title and folder levels:

  • Level 1 | Title for major package sections
  • Level 2 | Separator for sub-sections
  • Level 3 | Folder for deeper grouped items

Those rows can be opened or closed. Child files stay indented under them.

A user's open or closed section state is personal. If a title or folder is later deleted, the saved state is simply ignored.

Uploaded annex files can be renamed, reordered, replaced, deleted, or moved by drag and drop. Large annex uploads show the current file, percentage, and transferred size. For a dropped batch, the status also shows which file is being uploaded. At 100%, FileStudio still needs to save the file on the server; keep the Annexes window open until completion.

If an annex keeps an editable source from DocStudio or TableStudio, FileStudio can keep that source beside the final attached file. The final file opens as the normal document, while the editable source stays available as a controlled secondary action.

The Download flow supports package download as ZIP.

For a full package ZIP:

  • the main document is placed at the root of the archive
  • title and folder rows become ZIP folders for annex files beneath them

Title and folder rows also have their own download actions. Those downloads package only the files that belong to that visible section.

Create transfer link is planned but not available yet.

Use Annexes when one business record must keep supporting files, grouped sections, reused internal files, main editable sidecars, internal links, and editable app-native sources together without breaking the history of the main record.
