Family Photographs and Evidence
Describe photographs, tag people and faces, and distinguish images from event evidence.
Add portraits in Images & Media. Attach a family photograph or other file to its owning record, and use an event or relation evidence field when a source supports that specific fact. General Documents can hold material relevant to the Person without implying a particular life event.
Open an image and choose Edit Tags to edit its caption/title, type, partial date, date as recorded, tags, people and download filename. A useful caption says who appears, when and where if known, and what remains uncertain. The generated garden photograph in the sample is explicitly fictional.
Tag existing Person records to make the photograph discoverable through those people. Face circles identify a region within the image; they do not infer identities automatically. Use Tag Faces or Edit Face Circles to draw, move, resize or reassign a region. A people tag does not create a parent, sibling or partner relation.
A shared photograph remains owned by its original record. Tagged references reuse the same stored file. To edit it from another person’s view or a Family Documents list, the app prepares the owner’s editable record when permitted. An unsaved draft or missing write rights can prevent that transition.
Save changes or Save Tags updates a draft. Save the owning Person and the collection afterward. The original image bytes are retained; captions and circles are metadata. ZIP downloads contain original files without circles baked into the images. PDF captions and face circles have separate export choices; cover images do not display face circles.
