Map Your Family’s Birthplaces

Use linked places, interpret approximate locations and export an attributed birthplace map.

A family map starts from the same readable people selected by the chart’s starting Person, scope and privacy settings. Each usable birthplace contributes a Person once. Larger glows represent more people at that place, not territorial extent.

On a Person, link Birth Location / Place to a Location record. A Place with valid saved GPS latitude and longitude provides a known map position. Preserve historical spelling in Birth Place as Recorded without replacing the current structured place reference. The map does not use a person’s nationality, residence or DNA origin as a substitute.

If there is no usable saved GPS position, a unique exact city/country match in the local GeoNames index may provide an approximate locality location. Approximate matches are labelled and do not update the Place record. Ambiguous names, hidden fields, unsupported coordinates and unresolved locations are omitted with an explanation. The local city index does not contain every village or historical name.

Use Map, Fit and zoom to inspect the location dots, count labels and named Person chips. Dense labels can move with leaders pointing back to the true location; crowded labels may be omitted while the full place/person list remains. Click a Person name to inspect that record and return.

Country outlines represent present-day geographic context, not the family’s historical borders. Keep the Natural Earth and GeoNames credits in exported maps. PDF and SVG preserve the map; WorkFlow is unavailable. PDF can append dossiers for permitted chart members, with navigation from named legend entries.
